County, Olney Approve Cooperation Agreement

Young County commissioners approved an agreement Sept. 28 that provides a framework for the county and the City of Olney to work together on city properties, streets and facilities.

The court voted 5–0 to approve the interlocal cooperative agreement, which allows the county to provide governmental services, labor, equipment, materials and general assistance when the city requests help and the county agrees.

The agreement covers work on properties, streets, rights of way, facilities and other areas owned, operated or maintained by Olney.

County Judge Win Graham described the agreement as allowing a broad range of cooperation between the two governments.

Commissioner Allen Craig compared it to an arrangement already in place with Newcastle and said it would allow the county and Olney to work together on future opportunities.

One specific use discussed during the meeting was bulldozer training on lake property.

The agreement provides a formal basis for that cooperation, linking opportunities for equipment training with work on cityowned land.

Its approval does not automatically commit the county to every project the city proposes. Assistance remains subject to a city request and county agreement.

Commissioners did not detail a list of additional projects, funding amounts or reimbursement terms during the discussion.

The unanimous vote establishes a mechanism for future joint work as Olney and Young County identify projects that could benefit from shared equipment, labor and resources.
