County Oks 3 Pct Pay Hike for Elected Officials

Young County Commissioners voted unanimously to give all of the county’s elected officials a 3 percent salary increase for fiscal year 2026 during their July 28 budget workshop.

County Judge Win Graham introduced the measure, explaining that the increase had been properly advertised in both the Graham and Olney newspapers and that it also applies to county employees.

“The changes are a 3 percent salary increase, which we’re working on for elected officials and employees,” Judge Graham said. “There are also some longevity increases for certain individuals, and my state judicial supplement was increased. The state also approved a 25 percent increase for all prosecutors and judges in Texas.”

Graham noted that the total cost of the salary increases for all elected officials in Young County would be $39,205.

“Not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things,” he said.

Commissioner Jimmy Wiley made the motion to approve the salary adjustments, which was seconded by Commissioner Stacy Creswell. The measure passed unanimously, 5-0, with no public comments offered.

The approval triggers the salary grievance process, which allows for protests by elected officials who may contest their pay.

“As long as we don’t get a protest by this weekend, we get to move forward,” Judge Graham said.

The raises will take effect with the start of the county’s fiscal year 2026 budget in October.
