Council approves new RV Park Zoning

The City Council approved rules that require new RV parks to comply with new fire and occupancy codes as part of a push to boost the City’s property values and improve its fire safety rating.

This is a complicated and lengthy task that draw applause for Code Enforcement Officer Dustin Hudson from the Council chamber when the measure passed on second reading.

The City has wrestled with updating the 2003 fire and building codes to get a better fire safety rating and lower fire insurance rates citywide. The new rules include wider spacing of RV pads to allow firefighting equipment access and requirements to replumb water and wastewater lines and update electrical service. The ordinance also establishes an RV park district, makes both the RV park owner and tenants jointly responsible for violations of the new rules with citations of up to $500 for fire, safety or health violations.
