The city’s top bookworms took home a basket of prizes for winning the Junior High School, High School and Adult Summer Reading Contests at the Olney Community Library & Arts Center. The Junior High/High School winner was Mallory Jeske, who read 6,272 pages this summer. The Junior High/High School Runner up was Shelby Krajca, who read 6,025 pages. The adult winner was Debbie Key, who read 20,918 pages, and the Adult Runner-up, Mindi Kimbro, read 7,331 pages. Summer Reading began June 1 and ran through August 5. All winners were awarded a combination of Summer Reading T-shirts, books, and Amazon gift cards, Library Director Lori Cox said.

Olney Police want the public’s assistance in finding a man who evaded arrest on Aug. 19 in Olney and is wanted for sexual assault of a child. Police believe George Garcia fled to Wichita Falls after Olney officers tried to arrest him on the 700 block of North Grand Avenue at about 2 p.m. and he evaded them, OPD said.

Garcia is a Hispanic male, five-foot, eight inches tall, weighing 215 pounds, police said. He was last seen wearing black shorts, black slip-on shoes, and no shirt, police said. He has a tattoo of ‘940’ on his stomach and a set of black handcuffs on his right hand, police said.

“Garcia has connections here in Olney and may return at some point,” police said in a statement. “If you spot him or know his whereabouts, call 911.
