Coach Profile: Jed Cottle

Olney High School has welcomed a new teacher and coach, Jed Cottle, this year, and he’s already bringing experience, energy, and heat to both the classroom and the field. After nearly 10 years serving in the United States Air Force, he’s excited to settle down in a place that feels like home.

“I’ve moved around quite a bit during my time in the military,” he said. “I guess you can say I moved here from Albany, Texas. That’s where my mom lives, and I call that home.”

Before coming to Olney, Cottle taught world history to sophomores at Breckenridge ISD. Along with teaching, he was an assistant coach for varsity football and track, and he also coached junior high football, basketball, and track.

During his time in the Air Force, Cottle worked as a Global Intelligence Analyst. He later earned an associate’s degree in engineering from the University of Arkansas Grantham and a bachelor’s in criminal justice with a minor in computer information systems. He’s now preparing to begin his master’s degree in Sports Administration at Midwestern State University. When asked why he decided to come to Olney, he said family played a big part.

“I have several family members who have lived here most of their lives, some who were even teachers at Olney ISD,” he said. “My cousin, Coach Keeter, and I have always wanted to coach together. The timing was finally right. Definitely blessed, that’s for sure!”

Cottle also shared that Olney has always been a special place for him.

“I spent many summers growing up here with my cousin and family,” he said. “I really like the small town atmosphere and community. I plan to stay here as long as I can.”
