City applies for sewer grant

The City Council approved a series of resolutions that allow City Administrator Arpegea Pagsuberon to apply for a grant to repair a stretch of sewer line on Oak Street. The $350,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Nortex Regional Planning Commission will pay for repairs to the sewer lines on Oak Street behind Stewart’s Food Store. The grant also provides funding for a grapple bucket for a backhoe that the Public Works Department “has been chomping at the bit to get,” Mrs. Pagsuberon said. The equipment can be used to tear down condemned houses “a lot easier and faster,” said Olney Police Chief Dan Birbeck.
