Chamber lunch features YouLead program

The Olney Chamber of Commerce [OCC] hosted a luncheon at the Olney Hamilton Hospital education center. The lunch title sponsor was State Farm Johnny Moore Insurance. A lunch of pork chops, roasted vegetables and macaroni salad was provided by Loaves and Dishes, a local Olney restaurant.

While chamber members dined, Mayor Rue Rogers gave an update about matters facing the city of Olney and was followed by a lecture by Penny Berend about the Young County You Lead Program.

According to the Young. agrilife.org website, You Lead is a training program designed to develop and cultivate leaders within the community.

“Each class is a diverse group representing many different organizations and groups within Young County. It is an interactive learning program that teaches leadership skills and provides training and education,” the website said.

OCC Director Deidre Brown said the next big event for the Chamber will be the annual Olney in America celebration on June 29 at the Olney Country Club.

The event will host live music, vendors, food trucks and end the evening with a huge fireworks display.
