Candidate Craig Carter mourns the loss of family

Candidate Craig Carter who is running for state representative to replace Drew Springer in HD68 seat is mourning the loss of family killed in a hit-and-run accident Sunday, Jan. 31 in Fort Worth.

Carter released a statement on Facebook regarding the loss of his four-year-old daughter, Lux and his mother-in-law, Rose. His three-year-old son, Rex, is in critical condition at Cook Children’s Hospital.

“As some may know my daughter, Lux, who was four, and mother-in-law Rose, have passed away into heaven as the result of a horrible car crash on Sunday. Our son Rex has survived, he is fighting, and we humbly ask for your prayers. My wife and I are devastated but comforted by the knowledge that they are now with our Lord Jesus Christ,” Carter said.

Governor Abbott has announced the date for the runoff election as Feb. 23, with early vot-ing on Feb. 16. Carter is running against David Spiller, an attorney from Jacksboro.

Leigha Morgan has set up a Go Fund Me page to assist with medical expenses for their son.

“As with so many last year, the economic downturn and COVID, we have no health insurance for Rex. All of these costs will be out of pocket. Cooks Children’s hospital is taking great care of Rex and there are many specialists involved - his care is extensive and ongoing, and we have no idea when he is coming home and even then, he will be in rehab for a period of time. We are asking you to please donate what you can and to please pray for us and especially Rex,” Morgan wrote. You may donate by visiting their Go Fund Me Page linked below:

They have raised more than $44,000 of their $200,000.00 fundraising goal. Morgan and Carter wrote that they are thankful for any amount people are able to donate. “We love and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” – Leigha Morgan and Craig Carter.
