The business of prayer

The business of prayer

Many leaders and pastors in the Olney community have been spending extra time praying for individuals and families who have been facing adversities, especially those associated with the Coronavirus. With so much chaos in our personal lives, we sometimes forget about the challenges some of the local businesses may face in their day-to-day operations.

When dealing with hardships, it is important to be aware of all the resources and support right here in Olney. For example, The Refuge— also known as Olney Christian Community Center—offers many levels of support not only to children, but also to residents, churches and businesses. Rodney Nantz, the executive director of The Refuge saw a need to help strengthen the local businesses through prayer. For the past few weeks, he has been visiting and praying for the merchants in Olney. In some cases, he facilitates a 30-minute Bible study, too.

Nantz said he has decided to specifically set aside time to pray for the businesses because it is part of the mission of The Refuge, which is “to teach the Gospel as presented in the Holy Bible, strengthen the community, support local churches and strengthen families.”

“As our country battles through this economic crisis we believe the greatest response we have is prayer. We believe that through the power of prayer and God’s provision during this pandemic we can become a stronger community. If the businesses are strong, our community is strong. People in the community work at these businesses, so it is important to pray for success and stability,” Nantz said.
