Billy Thompson baptized days before expected death

BY MIKE MCKINNEY | INTERIM PASTOR, SOUTHSIDE BAPTIST CHURCH

Olney resident, Billy Thompson, made his public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, followed by baptism, July 24. His baptism took place at Southside Baptist Church in Olney, just like any other baptism by immersion. This baptism was unique because it was outside in a horse trough! Mr. Thompson attends the “cowboy service” at Southside and requested his baptism “cowboy style.” A horse trough was filled with water, placed on the front lawn of the church where folks gathered to celebrate Mr.. Thompson’s request. A crowd of church members gathered to witness the old-fashioned baptism in a new horse trough. Mr. Thompson’s family and friends all rejoiced in his decision and were glad to witness his baptism. Most often baptism takes place inside the church in a baptistry built for that purpose, however, people have been baptized in lakes, rivers, ponds, water troughs, and other means. The horse trough was loaned to the church by Berend Bros. Inc. and after the baptism the water was used to water the lawn and trees!

The church invites everyone to Cowboy Church at 9:00 a.m, Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. and traditional worship at 11:00 a.m every Sunday.

Maybe you would like to baptized in a horse trough!
