Arrest made by Olney PD after panic call

Olney Police Department was called to resolve an incident at the 600 block of North Avenue E on Friday, Aug. 20. in Olney at 10:25 a.m. The incident involved a fight between a male and a female.

Olney Police Chief Dan Birbeck said the officer on duty reported that there were possibly two male subjects armed with a rifle and a knife.

“Olney police officers arrived on location and found the female hiding outside in the alley behind a dumpster. They said she appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. The female told the officers that there were possibly two male subjects in the house armed with a rifle and a knife,” Birbeck said.

Officers reached out to the subjects inside of the house via megaphone but did not receive a response.

“Additional officers from the Young County Sheriff ’s Office, the Young County Constable’s Office, Precinct Three, the Department of Public Safety, and the Archer County Sheriff ’s Office responded to the location to assist. Officers made entry into the house to find a disabled male subject in the back bedroom. The male offered no resistance and appeared to be confused by the officers presence,” Birbeck said.

The officer’s report states that the male confirmed drug use with the female who reported the incident. After officers identified the male, they discovered he had an outstanding felony warrant out of Blue Mound for engaging in criminal activity.

“The male was taken into custody without incident. Due to his medical condition, he was taken to a hospital and medically cleared before being transported to the Young County Sheriff ’s Office. There was no physical evidence that supported the original complaint made by the reporting person. It is believed at the time that she may have been hallucinating, as the reporting person was released to a family member,” Birbeck stated.

Officers arrested Daniel Cane, 54, and no officers or suspects were injured. The case remains under investigation.
