Arrest made by Olney PD

Olney Police received a call at 11:15 a.m. regarding a suspicious subject in the backyard of a residence in the 700 block of W. Payne Street

When an officer arrived and located the suspect, he fled on foot, jumping multiple fences. A lengthy foot pursuit then ensued through numerous yards and alleys.

The suspect then entered an open garage in the 800 block of W. Payne Street and stole a truck with the keys left inside. The suspect then attempted to flee the location and, when doing so, drove through a yard where an officer was able to disable the back driver’s side tire.

The suspect then fled west on Payne Street with several officers in pursuit. The vehicle drove through the field behind Western Heights Apartments onto Haggar Rd., traveling south, crossing Highway 114/ Main Street onto FM 2178. The suspect drove through a fence and over a berm, where his vehicle became disabled. The Young County Constable assisted Oplney PD with taking the suspect into custody without incident. One officer received minor injuries during the foot pursuit and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The officer is expected to make a full recovery.
