American Legion gets spiffy for V-Day event

American Legion Post 414 of Olney is receiving some love of its own just in time for Valentines Day. Post 414 Commander Chris Garcia had all the troops and volunteers hard at work applying some much needed improvements to the Post.

Mr. Garcia says the makeover was long overdue and just in time for some major events coming to the Post. The Post is getting new paint, new lights [provided generously by Tower Fab], removal of some outdated equipment and many more cosmetic upgrades. Mr. Garcia said once they removed the old cigarette smoking filtration system from the cantina it really opened the room up and allowed viewing to the TV screen from anywhere in the room.

The first event coming up is the Olney Market Days which is being moved to the Post due to inclement weather and to show off the new upgrades. The event is called Sweetheart Sip & Shop and will host many of the regular vendors that set up shop at the regular Olney Market Days. Hosted by DJ Rad Dad and Rebel Soul Mercantile, the event is 2-6 p.m. on February 18 at 103 State Highway 251.

The second event is a concert featuring the local musical talents of Casey Keeter and Kevin Bullock opening for headliner Race Ricketts. Doors open at 7 p.m. with music starting at 8 p.m. on March 3. Advance tickets are $10, and $12 at the door. For more information on how to obtain tickets please visit the Legion Post after 4 p.m. or purchase tickets at these locations (cash only): 3T Meats, 1002 State Highway 79; Archer and Gunn Mercantile, 122 E. Main St.; and Hometown Coffee and Tea, 117 E. Main St.

Mr. Garcia invites the community to come and spend some time at the Post, Monday thru Saturday from 4 p.m. till it slows down. You do not need to be a veteran to visit the Post and it is a great location to socialize. Mr. Garcia says the Post has been working hard to integrate into the community as another resource to help its veterans and community members.
