Adopt a Senior Movement Gaining Traction on Facebook
With all the kids and youth stuck at home because of the shelter in place order some parents, teachers and kids are getting creative with ways to show their support of the youth missing the chance to make special memories only made at school and school activities. Especially the Seniors who are missing some once in a lifetime opportunity to make memories with their friends that can only be made during their senior year.
Some moms and dads are creating daily journals on Facebook to document and share what it is like to be sheltered in place and as a way to look back at a mess that turned out to be a blessing. This will be the generation that got to share a great deal of time with their family without distraction of life’s busy hustle and bustle of what has become the rush rush rush of today’s world.
Teachers are creating videos to share with their students to let them know how much they miss and love them. Friends are staying connected through skype, Facebook and zoom video conferencing. Its is almost a perfect blend of technology and old-world values. By old world values I mean back when family time was placed at the top of the list just below church.
Another idea to help Seniors know that those around them care a great deal about them and their situation with missing the end of senior year is something called “Adopt a 2020 Senior from Olney”. Taken directly from the Facebook page of the Adopt a Senior: “What it means to adopt a Senior. It means to encourage them. It means to help them over these next few weeks where life just feels completely unfair. Many activities were canceled, proms, events, tournaments, and possible their commencement in many places. This epidemic has affected everyone in one way or another. Help us support our Class of 2020 Seniors and their families. This was not the worst that could happen, but it is really tough on the seniors and their families! You can send your adopted senior’s letters with words of encouragement, check up on them, buy them gifts, send them cards, and mostly just let them know that the Class of 2020 has not been forgotten”.
