70th annual True homecoming reunion
The 70th annual True Homecoming Reunion was held Sunday, September 15, 2019 in Olney, Texas. This is a tradition dating back to 1949, and has been held annually for past and present members of the True, Texas community. As quoted by D.D. Cusenbary the town of True, Texas, no longer exists on the map. “The stores are all gone. All the homes have disappeared and the only evidence left is the little cemetery and fond memories. Loved ones and friends keep these memories alive.” The annual True Reunion does just that! Generations of True community members meet every September to visit, and enjoy a potluck lunch. Several People were honored this year, including Glenda and Charles Scobee who were awarded appreciation plaques for their years of dedication and service to both the True Reunion, as well as to the True Cemetery Association. As tradition would have it, awards were also given to both the oldest, and youngest reunion attendees. Neil Larimore received the plaque for the eldest attendee having never received the award in the past, while Brazos Choat was the youngest. Loved ones of True who had passed away this year were remembered. A wonderful time was had by all, thank you to those who continue to attend, and help keep the tradition alive!
