26th Annual March for Jesus set for Oct. 5

The 26th annual March for Jesus takes place on Oct. 5 to spread the message of “urgent care” and being attentive to the Lord’s business in urgent times, said Verma Fobbs, president of the March for Jesus board of directors. While this year’s event will keep its successful formula of a parade, devotion, and lunch, it incorporates teachings from the biblical story of Noah’s Ark, she said.

Parade participants should line up at Tommy Perkins Park at 9 a.m., with the parade to start at 10 a.m. The parade will be followed by devotion and worship in the sanctuary at the First Baptist Church of Olney. Jaden Briscoe, the new assistant pastor, will deliver the blessing and message.

Lunch will follow in the Fellowship Hall, and the organizers will give away a television, bikes, books and Bibles to the youth, and gifts to adults.

March for Jesus T-shirts are available for sale for $12 by calling Mrs. Jeter at 940-5646755.

The Enterprise visited with Mrs. Fobbs and board member Shirley Jeter about the event.

Enterprise: What inspired this year’s theme of “urgent care” and the link to the Noah’s Ark story?

Mrs. Fobbs: What brought that on my heart was that we went to visit the Ark in Kentucky. Seeing how that replica of the Ark and how this man prepared for his family. We must be in preparation this day and time for our families, and asking God to protect our families and getting them into the Ark as well. That Ark is Jesus.

We are to get in a hurry to serve God because these are urgent times.

Mrs. Jeter: Urgency is the focus - to make sure your heart is right and that you’re doing what God wants for us to do. We need to be about his business, and to make sure your family is prepared.

Enterprise: This is your 26th year of putting on this event. What inspires you to do it every year?

Mrs. Jeter: The Lord inspires us to do it every year.

Mrs. Fobbs: What inspired me is that people need a Savior and as we look into the world as it is and we see all the turmoil that’s going on in the world … we are to be more excited about what the Lord is doing.
