“A Victorious King”
“He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.” Psalm 2:4 NASBS
Dear reader, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob is worthy to be praised. He is the Holy One of Israel. He is just in all His ways, abounding in grace to all who call upon Him, yet will in no way let the wicked go unpunished. His infinite wisdom cannot be grasped by anything He has created, nor can it be understood apart from divine intervention. His wisdom is far superior to the angels above, who tread in His presence, or any demon below, who must subject themselves before Him, or any individual on earth, who bears His image. Through Him, all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made, and He holds all things together by the breath of His word. Though the kings of the earth take their stand against Him, though the judges of this world seek to overthrow His sovereign decree, and though finite man lifts His fist against Him, crying, “I can do whatever I want,” He who sits in the heavens laughs and scoffs at them. The Lord will break them with a rod of iron and shatter them like earthenware, for He is a victorious King. Therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth, and you O man, bow before His heavenly throne. Worship the LORD with reverence and rejoice with trembling. Worship Jesus and fall on your face in repentance because He is worthy of your praise, lest you perish in the way. For His wrath will soon be kindled.
You see, friends, this great King Who will one day judge the world according to His perfect righteousness has made way for man to be saved and escape eternal judgment. He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, into this world to pay the penalty for man who is already under His divine anger. Jesus accomplished this by taking upon Himself human nature without subtracting from His deity; therefore, He is God in the flesh. He lived the life that man could not live by internally and externally, fulfilling all the demands of the law without sinning. He paid the penalty of man by laying His own life down in place of man so that through Him He might be saved. Again, reader, you must understand, “The word is near you, in your mouth and your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes, resulting in righteousness and with the mouth, he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.” But for those who reject God’s redemptive plan of salvation, He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury on that day when He will judge the world. He will break them with a rod of iron and shatter them like earthenware, casting them into final perdition where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Therefore, you who have rejected Christ as your Savior.
May God have mercy upon you today and bring you to saving faith.
