OISD Board Taps Dustin Altmiller for Athletic Director-Head Football Coach

The Olney Independent School District has tapped one of its own to lead the next generation of student-athletes. Dustin Altmiller, an Olney High School alumnus and former Cubs quarterback, has been named the district’s new athletic director and head football coach.

Coach Altmiller returns to his hometown after more than a decade serving as offensive coordinator at Benbrook High School, where he built a strong reputation for leadership and program development. He brings with him not only a wealth of coaching experience but also a deep connection to the Olney community.

“This opportunity feels like a full-circle moment for me, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to give back to the community that shaped who I am today,” Altmiller said. “Having been born and raised here, I’ve always had a deep love and respect for the traditions, values, and spirit of this town.”

Coach Altmiller graduated from Olney High School in 1998 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University in 2001. He later completed a master’s degree in Athletic Administration at Eastern Kentucky University in 2003. He and his wife of 23 years, Becky, are relocating to Olney with their daughter Kailyn, who will be a junior at OHS this fall. Their son Hayden is a freshman at the University of North Dakota.

His roots in the community run deep. He is the son of Desley and Sherry Altmiller—Mrs. Altmiller retired in 2021 after 30 years of teaching at Our Beginning School—and the grandson of Wade and Edwana Fikes and the late Russell and Evelyn Altmiller.

“Coach Altmiller’s connection to our community brings unique value to our students,” the district shared in a Facebook post. “He blends seasoned experience with an irreplaceable connection to what makes us Olney—our roots, traditions, and community values. Once a Cub, always a Cub!”

Community members are already rallying around the hire. “He is an amazing man and we are truly blessed,” said parent Ashley Bint. “He is a God-loving, family Christian man that I believe will be great for our kids.”

Coach Altmiller said he is eager to get started and is ready to lead the Cubs to success both on and off the field.
