Olney Celebrates America’s 250th Bday

As ‘Murica - the United States of America, that is reached its 250th anniversary, Olneyites gathered at the Olney Country Club to celebrate the Fourth of July at the Olney Chamber of Commerce’s biggest event of the year, Olney in America. The event was a huge success this year, drawing an estimated 1,300 people, thanks to Olney Chamber Director Kimberly Smith and an army of volunteers.

The event included food vendors like local favorite Jenn and Joe’s Jetty Joint and some favorites from out of town like Ken’s Chicken and Fish, a funnel cake vendor and a very popular lemonade vendor. Local and out-of-town business vendors attended as well, including a local favorite Olney ACE Hardware which has stepped up to serve the community in so many ways since opening last year. Promised Land Farms, which will bring fresh produce and fruit to Olney, also attended.

It couldn’t be a safe space to party without our own local Olney Police Department whose officers kept everything in order and safe. Thanks should also go to the Olney Chamber and their volunteers working tirelessly to make the event a great success, as well as the employees of the Olney Golf Course and Olney Recreation Center for their support and to the sponsors: Tower Extrusions, Zack Burkett co., Fort Belknap Electric Coop, Don’s Butane & Fuel Supply, Stewart Ranch, Brazos Communications, Air Tractor, B-Tex Ranch, Project Saltworks, Here’s Your Sign and Olney Hamilton Hospital. Many other sponsors as well. A complete list of sponsors can be found on the Olney Chamber Facebook page.

Entertainment this year was headlined by King George, a George Strait cover band; they did an amazing job performing all of those classic George Strait favorites everyone loves. Foster Sullivan and Daniel Latham entertained the crowd before the headliner took the show. The grand finale of the evening’s events was a spectacular fireworks display that had the crowd oohing and ahing. The evening wound down after the fireworks ended with most meandering to their vehicles all tuckered out from the day’s festivities and yet others lingered engaged in conversations perhaps reliving old memories or just hanging on tight not wanting the evening to end.
