Haylee Haralson Chosen As OHS Principal

The Olney Independent School District Board of Trustees announced this week that Haylee Haralson has been selected to serve as the new principal of Olney High School.

Board members were expected to approve Mrs. Haralson, an ag teacher, as the new high school principal at their May 12 meeting.

“After a thorough search and interview process, we are thrilled to announce Haylee Haralson as the finalist to be Olney High School’s new principal,” the district announced on its Facebook page.

Mrs. Haralson, who has been a teacher in Olney ISD for 11 years, will officially step into her new role after the board vote, and will succeed Dr. Matt Caffey, who will become the district’s superintendent in June.

Mrs. Haralson earned her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Agricultural Education from Texas Tech University. She later completed her master’s degree in Agricultural Education at Texas A&M University-Commerce and her principal certification through the University of North Texas.

Her teaching career began in Anna, Texas, as an agriculture teacher before marriage to Jordan Haralson prompted a relocation to Breckenridge, where she taught first grade for one year. Mrs. Haralson joined Olney ISD shortly thereafter as an agriculture instructor, briefly taking a semester break following the birth of her youngest child.

She returned to finish the school year teaching math at Olney Junior High before resuming her role in the agriculture department at Olney High School.

Growing up in Valley View, Mrs. Haralson was inspired to teach by her father, who also taught agriculture.

“My dad taught ag there for 40 years, so I have been around education my whole life,” she said.
