On March 23, Olney High School hosted an invitational track meet with various schools attending. Through all events, the Cubs and Lady Cubs fought hard and the fruits of their hard work were displayed. The Cubs placed 2nd and the Lady Cubs placed 3rd overall.
From boyhood, my husband was always an avid fisherman. He spent most of his free time with friends at the nearest fishing hole. One of the greatest photos of him as a boy was the day he and friends caught several large catfish at the family stock tank. His mom loaded the boys and the ‘big catch’ into the car and headed to town to Lassiter’s Studio for the photo — priceless. Into manhood he never quit loving to fish, whether it was the river, lake, stock tank, or going to Lake Falcon down on the Rio Grand — he and friends went there at least once a year. I even went one time and came away with a massive sunburn and near heat stroke! He and one of his friends had the bright idea of building a boat with 2 car hoods. They went to the car junkyard and found two matching car hoods, and proceeded to get them welded together - what a fine boat it was! They would string their fishing lines across an area of the lake and bait the hooks. They would go back each evening to see what they may have caught, and look forward to some good eating. In later years the car hood boat ended up down behind the barn to live out its life. I coaxed Neil into sitting in the boat while I took his photo...what a good sport! It was told that there were a few times when the boat came close to sinking! I guess you could say that there were a number of good friends who came close to going under in the legendary car hood boat!

I have to admit it. When I got the nursery volunteer list in the mail and I realized that I was scheduled to work Easter Sunday, I was kind of bummed. I would be tucked away in a corner of the church, cut off from the energy and excitement of Easter. I would be removed from the sanctuary, where “real” church was happening, where my two older children and I stand and sing together on the front row, where my husband preaches, sometimes fiery and sometimes sweet and always truthful out onto an ever-fascinating, ever- growing crowd of our church family.
