Golfers brave wind, cold at Chamber tournament

Participants at last weekend’s Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament donned windproof gear to compete under unexpectedly storm-tossed skies to raise money for the Chamber’s upcoming events. A group from Quanah, Texas took first place at the tournament and two Olney teams tied for second place. The first-place finishers were Mark Leija, Mayson Laija, Landin Laija and Jared Brown. The second-place finishers were Landon Rowe, Katie Rowe, Jon Whitsitt, and Courtney Whitsitt who tied with Malia and Ryan Cawthon and Brennan and Brandt Bailey. Three individuals walked away with $50 each for getting closest to the pin and longest drive, including Matt Tucker for the men’s contest and Katy Tucker for the women’s contest.

The Olney American Legion Post 414 has really become the place to go for fun since Post Commander Chris Garcia began making improvements to the post and offering many activities for the community to enjoy. From concerts to market days to just a place to have good conversations over a beer with friends, the Legion is quickly becoming a focal point of gathering for the community.
