Teens lead police chase through Olney

Three teenagers led Young County Sheriff ’s deputies on a car chase through Olney that reached speeds of over 100 m.p.h. and stretched for over 40 minutes and 50 miles after the teens fled from a traffic stop west of Graham. The deputy attempted to stop a white 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup for a traffic violation on westbound U.S. Highway 380 at around midnight on Oct. 3. The vehicle, occupied by three juveniles ages 16, 13, and 12, immediately accelerated to speeds over 100 m.p.h.

The deputy pursued the vehicle westbound towards Newcastle where another deputy deployed a spike strip in an attempt to disable the vehicle. The deployment flattened the right driver’s side tire but the driver continued to flee, turning onto State Highway 251 reaching speeds over 100 m.p.h. The vehicle continued through Olney into Archer County on State Highway 79, where additional attempts to deploy spike strips proved unsuccessful, the sheriff ’s office said. The vehicle continued northbound through Archer City until it reached Lakeside City where another deployment of spike strips disabled the vehicle. Units from the Olney Police Department, Archer City, Archer County, and the Department of Public Safety were involved in the pursuit. No injuries were reported. The teens were taken into custody and charged with theft of property over $2,500 and under $30,000, evading police in a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and engaging in organized criminal activity, the sheriff ’s department said. .
