Summer Camp at The Refuge Offers Wraps, Rockets, Wonder

This year, for our cooking camp, we decided on the theme: Anything that Wraps! We wanted to introduce the kids to new flavors while also having some familiar flavors. Each kid was such a champ in trying new things!

Cooking Camp was three days long. The first day was appetizer day. This year, we had three appetizers: Kimbap (Korean seaweed roll), Vietnamese Spring Rolls, and Mexican Pinwheels! The second day was the entrée; we have two entrées each year! This year, we made Crunch wraps and Chicken Shawarma! The third day was probably everyone’s favorite day: dessert! This year, we made S’mores Crunch wraps and Turnovers! It’s a joy getting to cook with the kids. While we guide them, the food is all made by the kids. The families also enjoy getting to try what their kids have made. It’s such a fun camp! And our hope is that God is glorified through it!

Science Camp this year was space-themed! This camp was for two age groups: 1st-3rd grade and 4th-6th grade, and each camp was two days long. We learned about the constellations, we learned how slime is a non-Newtonian fluid while also making it look like a galaxy. We learned chromatography by making our own planets on coffee filters, and we ended in a not-so-science way…painting our own galaxies!

In one of our devotions, we talked about how God created everything and how each person was made unique and not like anyone else. The devotion about creation was just the next devotion in our book. However, it fit perfectly with learning about the universe and how God created it all! The stars, the planets… everything. It was a sweet reminder of how awe-inspiring our God truly is!
