OPD re-arrest suspected drug house tenant

Olney Police re-arrested the 57-year-old tenant of a suspected drug house on new warrants less than two weeks after she was jailed on charges of possession and manufacturing of drugs in connection with alleged drug activity, Police Chief Dan Birbeck said. Adriene Yvonne Atkinson, alias “Black Mama,” was re-arrested at her rented home at 305 S. Ave. F in Olney on Nov. 3 on outstanding warrants for possession of a controlled substance, a Young County jail officer said. She was jailed in lieu of $20,000, and was released the following day, the officer said.

OPD officers had previously arrested Ms. Atkinson on Oct. 20 at the Avenue F house after receiving information from Young County probation officer Spencer Key that Atkinson may have violated the terms of her probation, Chief Birbeck said.

Mr. Key discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia upon entering the house, Chief Birbeck said. Police officers were on scene to assist Mr. Key, he said. Upon entering the property with Ms. Atkinson’s consent, the officers discovered marijuana in the home, he said.

Multiple people were at the residence but only Ms. Atkinson was arrested, Chief Birbeck said. She was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana, according to Young County Jail records. She was held in lieu of $30,500 in bail but was released on bond a day later, jail records showed.

Chief Birbeck said police had been monitoring Ms. Atkinson’s house and other locations that are believed to be engaging in narcotics trafficking.
