Olney, Seymour to host hospital volunteers at Olney Civic Center

The cities of Olney and Seymour will play host to the Texas Association of Hospital Volunteers District Meeting for the first time ever next month, and the Olney and Seymour hospital auxiliaries are asking for help from local businesses to assemble goodie bags for their guests.

The TAHV District 6 meeting will be held on Oct. 17 at the Olney Civic Center. The host auxiliaries expect as many as 100 attendees from 17 area hospitals, including Olney Hamilton Hospital.

Judi Winslow, District 6 representative and state newsletter editor, said the auxiliaries are looking for small items such as pens and pads, magnets, bookmarks, pill holders, travel tissues, hand lotion, hand sanitizers, and other promotional items from local businesses. The Auxiliary also is looking for donations for door prizes, she said.

The meeting has a full slate of speakers and topics, with Olney Police Chief Dan Birbeck scheduled to give an active shooter drill, and Dr. Sheila Carley Harris speaking on thriving into one’s senior years, she said.

The auxiliaries throughout District 6 will give reports on their activities and share ideas for fundraising.
