Olney residents participate in Royal Theatre play: The World According to Roy & Jesse
The World According to Roy and Jesse begins its fivenight run at the Royal Theater this Thursday! Promising laughs galore and a tear or two, theater-goers will not want to miss this, the final presentation in Jim Black’s barber shop series of plays. Last year, the group of regulars left the shop for the La Bella Vida Estates Retirement Home and eventually settled right in. This year finds Roy (Sonny Ashley) and Jesse (Tim Hertel) continuing their long-running chess game, and Violet (Tommye Jane Wright) faithfully reading her mother’s bible with her husband, the former Sheriff Harris (Bob Wright) by her side.
Melvin (Eddie Trigg) continues to find plenty to complain about, and Ted (Jack Roberts), resuming a hobby from years past, astonishes the group performing magic tricks as Mr. Spooky. Clifford, still mourning the loss of his wife, Martha, has gone to Oklahoma to visit his daughter, and Joe has decided the time has come for some long overdue dental work.
The needs of all are seen to by the Estate’s attentive day nurse, Betty Jack (Obelea Rue), security guard, Jedidiah (Gary Beesinger), maintenance man, Banjo (Bob Kitchell), Sheriff Hank (Lonnie Rue) and his dependable deputy, Alvin (Greg Pollock.)
Last year’s play introduced patrons to Jesse’s wife Trudy (Lydia McWhorter), who hit the floor running and has not slowed down one iota. This year’s production showcases two more new faces. Tom Banks (Jim Hart) is not only a lady charmer with an air of mystery about him; he’s also Roy’s long lost brother from New York. And then there’s Ruth Ann (Becky Nogle), Betty Jack’s cousin from Alabama who’s come to live at the Estates, and if the Lord sees fit, find a man.
