OISD journalism class takes over Cub Hub

Members of the OHS journalism and yearbook class will assist The Olney Enterprise with coverage of school-related news and events beginning this week. Their stories and bylines will be featured on the weekly Cub Hub page. The students are led by Mindi Kimbro, former Enterprise editor and high school teacher since 2015.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work closely with the Enterprise on this project,” Kimbro stated. “It’s exciting to see where this will go as the kids work throughout the rest of the school year to cover the news.”

Students in the class this spring are Tate Gibson, Ben Norris, Ryan Conder, Cheyenne Slattery, Eva Ekberg, Mya Garcia, Abby Guerra, Cate Rodriguez and Taaron Scrogum. Students are assigned a news story or photo opportunity related to the Olney ISD campus each week. They must meet deadlines, edit their stories, and submit them on time for publication. The opportunity could potentially grow into more news coverage by the fall.

“This is a relatively small class, and we are trying to cover a wide variety of events, sports, and special projects at all campuses,” Kimbro said. “Any news tips may be sent to me at mkimbro@olneyisd.net or sent to us through The Olney Enterprise.”
