Magic Balloons at OCLAC

Magic Balloons at OCLAC

On June 29, the Olney Community Library & Arts Center (OCLAC) hosted another fun summer program by bringing in Robb Holladay and his Magical Balloon Show.

When asked about what Holladay’s goal was, he replied, “It’s all about reading, it’s all about coming to the library. Computers, iPads, all that is okay, and that’s the way our world is, but we want to keep reminding the kids that there’s something special about an actual book and reading and how the library can be a central place where y’all can come in and share the love of reading.”

Holladay told a very popular story, “The Three Little Pigs,” and as he told the story, he made plenty of balloons to give to the kids who helped him in telling the story. Holladay made many whimsical and magical balloons all throughout the show. As Holladay made the balloon creations, he would choose a child from the audience to gift the balloon. With each balloon creation, the children in the audience squirmed with delight and anticipation at the prospect of being chosen to receive such a marvelous and magical balloon.

According to amazinglibraryshows. com, Robb Holladay graduated at the bottom of his class, but has taken all the negatives in his life and turned them into positives. As a toddler, while in his walker, Robb pulled a hot coffee pot on top of himself and suffered third degree burns, which resulted in numerous surgeries. Throughout his childhood and teen years, Robb suffered extreme stuttering, asthma, and other illnesses that left him a prime target for bullying and violence.

Today, Robb is a professional speaker with appearances on radio, television, and newspapers around the country. He has had the honor of speaking to and impacting the lives of over 1 million students in schools all across the U.S. and Canada. Robb Holladay believes that our self-image and self-respect will determine how we interact with others and will ultimately shape and determine the course of our lives.
