Farewell Party To J.B. Wear Family

Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Wear, Miss Louise and J.B. Wear, were guests of honor at the Methodist Church Tuesday night. Rev. Burton and Rev. Dunn spoke a word of appreciation. At one time Mr. Wear served as Superintendent of the Sunday School. At that time the church was in the South part of town. Mr. and Mrs. Wear responded to these words of appreciation. Mr. Wear served as teacher and steward, and was always true and faithful to his post of duty. Such a life is a benediction to a church. Mrs. Wear being a member of the Missionary Society, served, indeed, as a true member. How we will miss them! Miss Louise has only been with us a short time, but to know her is to love her. She is indeed, a true Christian girl.

Due to the termination of the war with Japan and the observance of the following day as a holiday by the business institutions of Olney, the Enterprise was published one day late this week. But isn’t it worth it! Small town newspapers, perhaps, have labored under as severe handicap as most any business one might name, and the coming of peace again will be a tremendous relief to those who have carried on as best they could under such conditions.

Donna Bishop will represent Olney in the Oil Bowl Queen Contest Friday night. She is the reigning football queen for Olney High School. Pat Kelly, OHS outstanding back last season, will participate in the annual Oil Bowl grid clash. Reports from the workouts are that Kelly will probably play at either offensive or defensive guard. Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Kelly, was named to the all-district squad and will attend Rice University on a football scholarship. Miss Bishop, daughter of Mrs. Harvey Bishop, was head cheerleader last season. She will be presented during the halftime activities of the game to be played in Coyote Stadium in Wichita Falls.
