75 Years Ago – July 27, 1945

Botkin Is Promoted To Master Sergeant

Word has been received of the promotion of Horace Botkin to Master Sergeant. He has been overseas for two years, and is now in Belgium in the headquarters, 70th Fighter Wing. M-Sgt. Botkin is on a leave of absence from the First National Bank where he was employed before entering the armed forces. He is a graduate of Olney High School and received a degree in Business Administration at North Texas State Teachers College, Denton.

50 Years Ago – July 23, 1970

Phillips Completes Army Training

PFC Tommy Phillips has recently completed advanced Individual Training at Fort Bliss, El Paso, with honors as the Distinguished Graduate of the Missile School, USAD. His overall average in all phases of training was 98.4, which is the highest academic rating recorded since the establishment of the Missile School of Air Defense. Phillips is a graduate of Graham High School and Cisco Junior College. He also attended Texas Tech. He has recently been assigned as an instructor in the missile school from which he graduated and will be stationed at Fort Bliss for his next tour of duty. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.N. Phillips of Newcastle.

Megargel Birthday Plans Continue

Plans continue in full swing for the 85th anniversary celebration by the City of Megargel. The event will be Saturday, Aug. 19 in the city park. A kick-off parade will start at 9 a.m. and followed by arts and crafts booth, games and entertainment. Megargel fire department will serve a barbecue meal starting at 5 p.m. Concluding the day’s activities will be a dance starting at 9 p.m. with the band Hired Guns providing the music.
