ICE PLANT IS SOLD TO WICHITA PARTIES

A deal was closed this week whereby the ownership of the Olney Ice Company passes from the hands of local parties and becomes the property of the Peoples’ Ice Company of Wichita Falls. The new management takes charge of the plant at once, and they hope to get started up next week. We are informed that they will try to patch up the old plant and get by this season, and that during the coming winter they will remodel and overhaul the entire plant and will place a first class ice plant in operation hereafter. They hope to begin deliveries sometime next week.

APPLICATIONS FOR CANNING SUGAR AT OLNEY POST OFFICE

Applications for canning sugar are available at the Olney Post Office on request. Only one application will be supplied to a family and must be mailed to the Ration office in the City Hall. Ration clerks request that applicants read the instructions carefully and mail instead of bringing them to the office. Heretofore, the applications have been handled by volunteer workers and the sugar coupons issued at the same time. Approximately 200 applications already have been received and each application will be studied and sugar certificates will be allocated as fairly as possible.

PENN POINT

Well, our spacemen are back on dry land safe and sound after their ordeal in space. In a news conference they admitted they had some tense and rather frightening feelings, but all said they would go again if they had the chance. One of the prettiest sights was when the capsule splashed down in the Pacific about noon Friday.

PENN POINT

Someone helped themselves to rose bushes and geraniums last Wednesday. Rose bushes were reported pulled up and taken from in front of the post office. This might be considered a federal offense. Geraniums were reported dug up and taken from Tommy Perkins Park. Someone is going to have a nice yard but may have a hard time explaining their new rose bushes and geranium plants. Some people will take anything.
