OLNEY SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL FACILITIES

There is no one thing of more importance to the development of a commercial center and a trade territory than the maintenance of adequate school facilities for the education of the children of the citizens of that community. Ten instructors are employed in the city schools, each instructor being selected carefully according to his ability to handle the particular branch of the work to which he is assigned. These teachers have certificates ranging from second grade to permanent life certificates as instructors. The census for the last year in the Olney schools averaged 450 which gives an average of 45 pupils to each instructor. Olney schools are growing so rapidly that there is plans on foot to increase the staff.

COUNTY AGENT CORNER

Carpet beetles can be very damaging in the home. The larvae of these insects feed on stored food, rugs, upholstery, clothes and furs. Damage is commonly found in areas that are left undisturbed for a long period of time. Homeowners may be unaware of the presence of carpet beetles. The adult beetles are attracted to light and congregate around windows in the early spring. Carpet beetles reach about ½ inch in length, are elongated or carrot shaped, golden to chocolate brown and have a tuft of long, brown hairs on the tip of the abdomen.
