Kitchen access adds ease for Olney Heritage Museum patrons’ events

The Olney Heritage Museum recently added a full kitchen that was designed and built by workers participating in the House of Mercy Work Program, also known as the Hands of Mercy. The board of directors decided to add the kitchen for convenience for patrons who book the museum for various events.

The kitchen is completely equipped and includes a side-by-side refrigerator with an icemaker, making it easy to store food and have ice to host parties. Justin Piegat is currently overseeing the work program, and he supervised the kitchen build. JP said he had to convert the storeroom by framing the space, and then installing the Sheetrock on all the walls. After that, he painted the walls, hung doors, installed cabinets, and then the exquisite granite countertop.

The House of Mercy provides contract services to any person or business in need of repairs, carpentry, plumbing,  landscaping, among other services. Preston Crow, the executive director of the House of Mercy, said the resident-workers recently completed a teardown of a 3500 square foot home that had foundation issues. The workers completed the job in a timely fashion and achieved a sense of accomplishment by doing good in the community. When you hire House of Mercy workers, you are allowing them to rebuild their lives and engage in activities that help them busy their minds and hands while going through an intense biblical curriculum that teaches them how to make better life choices. To hire the House of Mercy workers, call Preston Crow or Trena Crow at 940-564-3339 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The museum is owned and managed by Perry’s Foundation, and was built to be not only a tourist attraction for Olney but also a resource to the residents of Olney and the surrounding communities. The museum houses historical artifacts precious to some of the first families that settled in Olney. Besides, it offers more than 5,000 square feet of space for meetings and events. Hosting meetings and events in an area where you’re surrounded by history adds interest to any engagement. The best part is there is no cost to use the space.

Meanwhile, feel free to stop by to view the space to determine if it is right for your event. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. or by appointment.
