H.O.M.E. Tuna Sheppard

My name is Tuna Sheppard and I am a level 3 resident at the House of Mercy. I’m 55 years old and I spent the majority of my life, 39 years, working at a carnival. I traveled with them to many cities, states, and even Mexico and Canada. I was let go from my job due to an injury I had acquired that wasn’t work related and because of it, I couldn’t take care of myself and work my job like I was supposed to.

Before the House of Mercy, my life was chaos. I was living out of my van in Houston, TX. A previous H.O.M.E resident highly recommended that I come to Olney and try to get my life in order. Since I’ve been here, I have taught myself how to read using only the King James Bible. I’ve come to know the Lord and I absolutely love everything that this place has to offer. The Christian Human Development class that Preston Crow teaches at 2 p.m has taught me so many things about Christ and the grace that we live in.

My goals after completing the program are to continue building up my faith in the Lord and to increase my reading level even more. I plan to stay in Olney and build a foundation for myself here with my brothers and sisters in Christ. My advice to anyone wanting and willing to change their life for the better is for them to come H.O.M.E.
