Healthy choices at Hudson’s on Main

Many people are looking for more plant-based options to eat healthy. With so many options in the marketplace, cooking healthy plant-based foods at home is now easier.

When it comes to eating out, the plant-based options are limited in some cases, but you can always select the veggies and salad -- although these options may not be as appealing as the items on the main menu.

However, I was pleasantly surprised when I decided to eat dinner at Hudson’s on Main in Olney. This family-operated restaurant has options for everyone, from carnivores to pescetarians to vegans.

I shared a table with a meat-eating lady who shall not be named, but her initials are BP. She chose the grilled chicken breast topped with a spicy sauce she loved.

Although I don’t eat meat, I enjoyed watching her devour it. I’m going to take a chance and say that it was delicious. Other options for the carnivores include a pork dish and a variety of cuts of beef ranging from a 6-8 oz tenderloin, 8 oz sirloin, 10 oz New York strip, or 12 oz ribeye.

Hudson’s on Main offers grilled fish and shrimp for the Pescetarian looking for healthy options. I asked a patron if she enjoyed the fish, and she said it was delightful. She orders it every time.

As a plant-based foodie, I’ve fallen in love with fried avocados that have a dairy-free and egg-free batter. I also enjoyed eating the fried mushrooms, which are an excellent meat replacement as they are perfectly battered and fried to perfection.

If you close your eyes while you eat them, you may believe that they are fried chicken. I paired my fried mushrooms with spicy green beans, butternut squash, and cowboy potatoes.

Dinner salad and pasta are also on the menu, along with a variety of desserts that I couldn’t risk looking at. I did hear someone mention the yumminess of the Italian cream cake.

This family business offers stellar service in a warm and inviting environment. Hudson’s on Main is located at 119 E. Main St., Olney, TX. It is open Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
