Freezin’ for a Reason raises money for Olney
The Freezin’ for a Reason golf tournament, a yearly rite of spring in Olney, drew 22 teams this year and raised $11,700 after being postponed one week because of the weather, organizer Kalynn Philipp said.
The charity event, which raises thousands of dollars each year for scholarships and local cancer patients, kicked off on March 15, a sunny and cool Saturday morning, at the Olney Country Club.
The event featured a golf scramble, silent auction, and dinner dance.
Hand-crafted trophies created by Olney High School’s Ag Mechanics welding students were handed out to winners of the tournament, and “Closest to the Pin” contest.
DJ Chris Widner spun tunes for the dinner dance at the Country Club’s clubhouse.
The winning team consisted of Rick Davis, Ross Wyatt, Steve Fikes and Tyler Fikes.
David Cope won the Closest to the Pin contest.
Freezin’s for a Reason began over a decade ago as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society but organizers decided to keep the fundraiser local to ensure that funds were available for ACS patients in Olney.
