Cubs battle Petrolia Pirates

Sept. 6 under the Friday night lights, the Olney Cubs battled the Pirates of Petrolia. The Cubs fought hard and put up a good fight but walked away with a loss of 26-48 on the Cubs Homecoming game.

The Quarterback for the Cubs, No. 7 Gabe Garza, had a touchdown run and failed extra point attempt in the first quarter followed by two touchdowns with accompanying extra points by the Pirates to finish off the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the same as the first with Garza running in a touchdown with a failed 2-point conversion. The Pirates scored twice with two good extra points to end the first half.

The third quarter saw Garza run in another touchdown and a successful 2-point conversion run by Garza. The Pirates ran one in for a touchdown with a failed extra point kick. No. 10 Carter Hinson, caught a long pass from Garza and ran it in for a touchdown with a failed extra point attempt. The Pirates fired back with a touchdown run and extra point that was good to end the third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw only one touchdown by the Pirates with a successful extra point to end the game, Cubs 26 Pirates 48.

Defense player of the week for the Cubs goes to No. 8 Luis Marquez with five tackles and six assists.
