Cub Center Chats

Thank you, thank you to all of you who opened your hearts and your pocketbooks to donate to the Olney Cub Center during our time of need. We appreciate your kindness and willingness to help us during the “Texoma Gives” timeframe. Your generosity will help us to continue with the MEALS-ON-WHEELS project we deem so vital to our community.

The Cub Center was full of laughter and good-natured ribbing during “giving day” on Thursday the 9. Several people crawled out of bed a little(or a lot) earlier than usual to join us for coffee and donuts. Wade and Edwana Fikes won our first two prizes, the “early bird” prizes for being the first two here. Wade did look rather sleepy so he headed straight to the coffee pot, then snagged a donut. Barbara Walker arrived next and headed to the donut box, but granddaughter Lauren halted her; it seems she was to have bloodwork done shortly. Not to fear, Wade volunteered to eat one for her- and he did! What a guy!

Upon her return, Barbara got a donut and joined the bantering with the Fikes.

Later in the morning, a charming gentleman came in and captured all our hearts. It was little Archer Miller who dazzled us with a huge smile! He happily accepted his donut, and when presented with a prize of a Cub Mug, he gleefully announced that he was going to go put hot chocolate in it and have it with his donut! He made our day!

During lunch we were delighted to have the OADH workers to come share a delicious meal with us.

Three drawings were done during lunch and the recipients were Dana Casey, Bill Pollitt, and Donna Ascote. Donna and hubby came from Canada to participate in the “dove hunt” activities, so we are glad to have made international friends.

Edward Furr won a later drawing and one of his prizes was a pair of earrings. I offered to pierce his ears, but he hastily declined, so guess his sweet wife will get them.

Bob Dilliard learned that he had also won a drawing; he smiled broadly when he found out that part of his prize was a coupon for an ice cream cone! Happy eating and save a little for Maggie May, that sweet little dog of yours.

The winners of the 84 contest were Barbara Walker, Hubert Gray, and Wade Fikes.

The 50/50 raffle drawing was won by one lucky dude! He didn’t even mind that I woke him up Friday morning to give him the news. Congratulations, Hubert Gray!

Mark October 13 on your calendars! That’s the date of our Pancake Breakfast! $6 will get you a feast. Ahh, pancakes slathered with butter, swimming in syrup, and accompanied by coffee, juice, bacon and sausage. Make plans to come- starts at 7:00A.M.
