The Olney Library and Arts Center hosted a special concert by Ray Hildebrand Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6p.m.

Hildebrand is best known for being one-half of the duo Paul and Paula. He penned the #1 hit “Hey Paula” back in 1963. Hildebrand shared with the audience stories from his career singing pop, country, and gospel music.

Dr. Don Newbury, also known as the Idle American, opened the show with a dose of humor that put everyone in a good mood to sing-along to the music and enjoy days gone by. Newbury, who currently serves as the Chancellor of Howard Payne University in Brownwood, and Ray Hildebrand, were students together at the university back in the early 1960’s.

One of the highlights of the evening was when Olney High School Freshman, Adelade Edgington sang “Hey Paula” with Hildebrand which was a huge hit with the audience.

ESL students at the library were able to see a little of the concert. Their teacher said it would be a good experience for them to learn English.

It was a really fun night with at least fifty people in attendance. First Baptist Church of Olney sponsored the concert.
