Missing Mom

With Mom’s Day quickly approaching I begin reminiscing about my Mom, whom I lost when I was 27. With life keeping us so busy it’s easy to lose track of making those we love most feel special or appreciated. It’s comforting knowing there is at least one day for most of us completely devoted to Mom, whom we love most.

A mom’s love is different from any other love and is the best love of all, I would say. It’s sad knowing that there are those out there that never were blessed with a mom or a great mom. The same can be said for dads as well but that story is for another day.

I am sure many have seen the stories in the news, movies or documentaries about a mom who just refuses to turn her back on her child even when they have committed murder. She may not agree or approve of these criminals’ crimes or way of life but it is almost impossible for a mom to stop loving and caring for her children. This is a small insight into just how strong a mom’s love is for a child.

Nothing is more comforting, at least for me, as when I was in my mom’s embrace and hearing the words, “Everything will be alright” and knowing that somehow, everything would be alright. Moms have a special healing ability – a mere kiss on a boo boo, a firm hug and a brush across the hair – and the injury is miraculously all better. That’s the power of a mom’s love.

Ever hear the term, ‘Never get in between a momma cub and her cubs’? This is part of a moms love; she will defend her children with her life and I tell you I would not want to test a momma protecting her cubs!

A mom’s love stretches to staying up half the night baking cookies or sweets for you to have for a school event and then working a job for hours afterward – then showing up to a game or school event cheering on her children. Moms cook, clean, work a job, show up to countless events for her children and sometimes, most times, all on the same day.

Moms wear many hats: she is a nurse, a chef, a launderer, a maid, accountant, cheerleader, adviser, confidant, a punisher, a protector, a healer, a seamstress, a volunteer, a mom and dad at times, a shoulder to cry on, a shoulder to lean on and the list is endless. What Mom is most is that one person in our corner when the chips are down and the world is against us. At that moment, you can be sure that when you look around your mom will be there right with you, with just the right words and motivation to get you where you need to be in your mind and heart to make it through the storm. Mom, most of all, is unconditional love.

This is Will B saying, I love you Mom and can’t wait to see you again. Thank you for being in my corner when I needed someone most.
