It seems like these days I have plenty of things popping off on my calendar and on my life goals. That does not mean there is not plenty of down time or in between times waiting on things to happen though.

Sometimes life happens while waiting for life to happen, at least this is a trend I have been noticing more and more. I could be enjoying a little down time between events thinking I will be catching up on some very important work, watching recordings of the Chiefs or Longhorns games. Recently I was very busy with nothing to do when my brother texted with a request from my niece for a visit from Uncle Bill. I was happy to oblige since it had been a good bit since I had visited with her or my brother.

This is a great example of life happening while waiting for life to happen. Do some of the most unexpected things happen while waiting for the parts of life we plan to happen? I believe they can and do. These unplanned things should sometimes take precedence over the life moments that have been planned.

For a great many years, I always put work first, even over time with my wife or friends and family events. It’s a shameful practice that I regret but those were different times and I have grown quite a bit since those times when I did not have my priorities correct.

A famous saying that I live closer to then in my past is, work for a living and not live to work. Meaning do not let your work overtake your personal life. We are not meant to work all the time. Life is about fellowship and creating memories, meeting new people, having new experiences and interacting with our church and community. At least for me this rings true and I strive even harder these days to make this my reality.

Another famous quote that I was lucky enough to make a reality is, do what you love for a living and you will not work a day in your life. I am sure not everyone will have the opportunity to make this a reality, but with hard work and dedication, anything you really love to do can be turned into a business these days. Take time to create a reality you love to be a part of.
