Respecting the Office
Something that has been bugging me for years is the lack of respect for the offices of the government and other elected positions.
This isn’t about who the person is behind the elected positions but more about the lack of common respect for the position.
I don’t recall things being so bad when I was younger. People voted for a president or other official and regardless of the winner, people would still show respect for the position. There have been some presidents I have not been for or in favor of but I never lost respect for the office of the presidency.
It seems much of the world has jumped on the bandwagon of basiling the U.S. for its leaders and I wouldn’t put the entire blame on poor leadership or bad choices.
Some of this attitude indeed is a result of this but I would shine the light on how we U.S. citizens back our elected officials. We may not like who is in office but we need to throw our support behind an officeholder once elected, show a united front to the world that no matter who is in office, we the people are behind and will support them.
The situation is like bashing coaches when the team is in a slump, when a coach is not winning, we still support the coach and show a united front to opponents and to help bolster the coach’s spirit.
If we don’t support the coach the players will see this and have no respect or follow the lead of the coach. If we don’t get behind our leaders, the world sees this as weak and begins to press the U.S. in foreign policies.
I find it as hard as anyone to support someone I don’t like personally but it’s time to show a united front. The political system is set up so no one person has all the power, each elected official has a small army of advisors to help aid in decision making. There is a Congress, a Senate and a House to keep checks and balances in place.
It’s time to put political differences aside and right the sinking ship that the U.S. economy has become. The future doesn’t belong to you or I but to the children being raised now. What kind of conditions will we leave the country in for them?
This is Will B saying, let’s stop worrying about the wrong tilings and focus on making this country great again, a nation of builders and manufacturers, not a nation of consumers.
