OHS Coach Jacobs Hopes For Growth
With the baseball season getting closer, the Cubs baseball team has already started preparing during the preseason. The team has been practicing and working on the basics so they can be ready once the season officially begins.
Head Coach Jason Jacobs said that for him, coaching baseball is about more than just the sport.
“Coaching baseball allows me to teach young men far more than just the game,” Jacobs said. “It gives me the opportunity to introduce life lessons, help players overcome adversity, and prepare them for success both on and off the field.”
Jacobs has been coaching and teaching for 20 years, and he said he’s been able to work with a lot of athletes who later went on to earn college scholarships. He thinks baseball helps students learn lessons that matter in real life, too, not just on the field.
Going into this season, Jacobs said the main things he wants to see are improvement and consistency.
“Our expectations this season are growth and stability,” Jacobs said.
He also said fans can expect the team to play aggressively and smart this year. The coaches want the team to take risks on the base, have confidence at the plate, and stay strong on defense.
“Fans can expect an aggressive style of play on the bases and at the plate, combined with disciplined, fundamentally sound defense,” he said. “Our overall objective is to reach the playoffs and see where the journey leads from there.”
