Cubs Battle Chiefs in Oct. 3 Homecoming Matchup

Homecoming has been a big part of American culture since 1910. The feeling of homecoming gives everyone in our town a sense of belonging; it connects people to longtime traditions and brings the community together as one.

The competition of who is named homecoming king and queen, and the anticipation of winning the home game is high in the air. Friday, Oct. 3, will be Olney’s homecoming game against the Crosbyton Chiefs.

During Homecoming Week, Sept. 29- Oct. 3, Olney schools will have dress-up days. For the high school, it’s Magic Monday (wear something Disney themed); Tuesday is Twin Tuesday (so twin with your bestie), Wednesday is White Lie Wednesday (so write a lie on your shirt and see who really knows you), Thursday will be Throwback Thursday (bring back your favorite era), and on Full Out Friday, show your Cub pride!

On Oct. 2, Olney will hold the Homecoming Parade. The parade will feature the football team, volleyball team, and band. It will also showcase the homecoming nominees. Queen nominees are Allison Alvarado, Bradi Bowers, Brooklyn Bond, and Morgan Simmons.

The Hunk nominees are: Juan Castillo, Karter Bowers, Peyton Bedford, and Sawyer Edgington. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and will end at the traditional bonfire by the old city pool, where there will be a spirit rally and the announcement of the Homecoming Hunk.

Then, as the air cools and the fated day comes, it will be Oct. 3, the day of the homecoming game. Before the game on Oct. 3, the Olney Chamber of Commerce is having a “Homecoming Tailgate and Meal” at the cafeteria. It starts at 5 pm.

At 6:30 p.m. at Cub Stadium, there will be a performance by the Pride of Olney High School Band, followed by the kickoff of the game against the Crosbyton Chiefs at 7 p.m.

At halftime, there will be a homecoming coronation, where they will announce the Homecoming Queen. Come out and show out for our Olney Cubs.
