Governor applauds White House approval of women’s health funding AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott said Jan. 22 that a Trump administration decision reestablishes the federal partnership for the Women’s Health Program in Texas.

Young County Republicans are hosting a candidate meet and greet at Olney Heritage Museum/Olney Enterprise Newspaper Monday, Feb. 3 beginning at 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The meeting location is at 213 E. Main Street in Olney. Young County Republicans Chair Kyle Milam said they are expecting 10-12 local candidates to attend. Each candidate will spend approximately three to five minutes discussing relevant issues and what they are committed to while in office. Lane Burgess, Young County Precinct 3 chair said, “ It is important for voters and supporters to attend this meeting to meet the men and women running on the 2020 Young County Republican Primary Ballot.”

Speed Limit is a concern for Olney residents

Olney residents are voicing their concerns about the 75 m.p.h. speed limit in the residential section of Hwy 251 S. After several weeks of discussion throughout Olney, residents shared opinions publicly about the excessive speed limit with Olney Enterprise Newspaper, Channel 6 News and on Facebook with the majority of Olney residents stating they are ready for a reduction to at least 55 mph in this area, and not more than 45 mph where school buses and children are involved. Other residents who support the reduction in speed agree that the speed should be reduced to a minimum of 55 mph.

The Senior Cub Center’s annual Souper Bowl Stew Lunch Fundraiser will be this upcoming Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Senior Cub Center located at 302 S. Avenue B, down the street from Griffin Park in Olney. The piping hot stew will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. You may dine in or carry out. Either way, you will make it home in time for the Superbowl game (Chiefs and 49ers).

“I was living in depression and was full of a sinful nature. I knew nothing of God’s Word,” said Philip Wallum, a House of Mercy Level Four resident. After spending six months in the program, Wallum said he is focused on “teaching the Word truthfully” while staying involved with H.O.M.E. Currently, Wallum is a house parent at the House of Mercy and considers the residents and staff as family. “My family is the House of Mercy. Preston and Trena Crow are my father and mother figures whom I love dearly,” Wallum said.
