Varsity girls end softball season

Varsity girls end softball season with thrilling win over Bryson

The Lady Cubs varsity softball team staged an exciting comeback in its last game to beat the Bryson Cowgirls 16-15 on April 24.

The Lady Cubs trailed the Cowgirls until the sixth inning. The bases were loaded when Brianna Galindo came up to bat. Galindo hit a fly ball to center field that went over the head of the opposing player, allowing all three base runners to make it across home plate. Galindo made her way home in a hurry to beat the ball to the catcher.

Those four runs tied the game. With key outs and good pitching, the Lady Cubs were able to seal the win in an extra inning.

Although the team did not end the season with the record they wanted, they were able to improve greatly. The team will lose players from key positions to graduation. The seniors, who were honored the day before the game, include Aney Alvares, Taaron Scrogum, and Cate Rodriguez.

“I’m thankful for what OHS softball has given through friendships, love, and memories,” said Rodriquez. “I’ll never forget. I’m proud of the girls working extra hard everyday to get to where they are today.”
