Varsity Cubs fall to defending state champions

The Cubs Varsity football team fell to the Hawley Bearcats 51-7 Friday, Oct. 21.

“I thought we played well for three out of the four quarters of the game,” Coach Jason Powers said. “We let a couple of mistakes snowball on us at the end of the first half on Friday night that made the game lopsided.”

Jacob Hernandez scored The Cubs’ lone touchdown on a 23-yard run. Eric Nuncio added on the extra point.

“Hawley is a good team. They won state last year for a reason,” Powers said.

“Any time you make a mistake against a team of that caliber they know how to make you pay.”

The Cubs play against the Colorado City Wolves at Wolf Stadium in Colorado City on Oct. 27.
