Two Olney FFA teams qualify for state contest

Two Olney FFA teams qualified for state after competing in the area competition at Tarleton State University on April 12.

The successful agriculture and leadership teams were Farm Business Management (FBM) and Ag Sales. FBM placed third to qualify. Ag Sales finished second in its contest to make the state round.

“Our students did an amazing job representing Olney FFA at the Area 4 contest,” said Advisor Alexendria Rowe. “Even though some of these students did CDE’s last year, for most of them it was the first time with their team and that contest. They worked hard in the middle of everything else going [on] extra-curricular- wise.”

Rowe added, “We learned a lot and cannot wait for next year to build their team bond and knowledge.”

The FBM team included Angel Alvarado, Eva Ekberg, Gatlin Guy, and Peyton Valdez. The Ag Sales team included Ellie Hinson, Aubrey Mahler, Taaron Scrogum, and Richard Walp. Brady Reid was the other member of the coaching staff.

Olney’s Dairy Cattle Judging and Floriculture teams also competed at the regionals. The Dairy Cattle Judging team of Brodie Hagle, Brady Lisle, and Brenna Madison placed 27th at area. The Floriculture team of Kristina Beamon, Nataley Kelly, and Tyana Kinney placed 20th.

The state competition will be held April 28 at Sam Houston University in Huntsville.
