Two OHS Seniors win MSU scholarships

Two seniors at Olney High School won scholarships to Midwestern State University at the Community Cafe event presented at the OHS auditorium on Monday, April 3. The Community Cafe gives away scholarships to those who are going to be the first in their family to go to college and who will attend Midwestern State University. MSU paired with Cafe Con Leche for the event, during which Aney Alvarez and Galilea Marquez each won a $4,000 scholarship. Cafe Con Leche forums allow Latino students and parents to learn more about education and career opportunities.

“The Community of Cafe has really opened my eyes on MSU and just getting a better education in general,” Marquez said. “It is always a pleasure to attend the meetings and the talks that Mr.Robles brings to my town. I am very thankful for the opportunity to have won this scholarship. I can’t wait to start the next chapter of my life at MSU.”

Marquez and Alvarez, will graduate in May and will attend MSU next fall. As they go into the “‘next chapter’” of their lives, they will be given opportunities to continue an education.

Not only has the Community Cafe helped Marquez and Alvarez, but Courtney Wells, OHS counselor, is able to use its resources to help students accomplish their goals at the high school.

“Cafe Con Leche has a wonderful mission and I am so glad it’s benefiting the students at OHS,” said Wells.
